What does the NHS say about Menopause?

'The Menopause is when a woman stops having periods and is no longer able to get pregnant naturally.' The majority of menopausal women can experience symptoms due to hormonal changes within the body, such as:

  • Anxiety and mood swings
  • Low libido
  • Hot flushes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Problems concentrating and remembering

If symptoms are severe and cause disruption to day-to-day life your GP can offer treatments to help provide relief. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a common treatment for menopause symptoms. It works by replacing oestrogen within the body using tablets, skin patches, gels and implants. Our menopause tea helps regulate hormonal imbalances using natural resources

What is Perimenopause & Menopause?

Perimenopause

Perimenopause means 'around menopause' which refers to the time surrounding the female body making its natural transition to menopause. This stage is also referred to as the ‘menopausal transition'. In the transition stage the menstrual cycle starts to become irregular and women may begin to experience symptoms such as hot flushes. Women can start Perimenopause at different ages.

Menopause

Menopause is defined as when a woman’s ovaries no longer make oestrogen or progesterone, and their periods have stopped for one year. However there is more than one stage of menopause. Menopause is once a woman has experienced her final period and will experience hot flushes, vaginal dryness, sleep problems and mood swings. Menopause can be confusing and uncomfortable period in a women’s life, a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine can help regulate these symptoms however herbal tonics have successfully been used to help relieve menopausal symptoms for years.

Self-Care Advice

The Menopause is a period of time when it is imperative to look after your body and well-being. Practicing self-care promotes the maintenance of your mental, emotional and physical health. Self-care should be a conscious daily effort that you can introduce into your life with small changes.

  • Frequent exercise in whatever form is a great way to stay healthy whilst boosting mood and energy. Particularly great during Menopause as the irregularity in your hormonal levels fluctuate your mood can dip
  • Avoiding smoking is a beneficial choice to make. Nicotine reduces levels of Oestrogen in the body which is what occurs in Menopause and causes some of the symptoms. Smoking could worsen the symptoms
  • Eating well and ensuring your body is receiving the nutrients it needs. This will help ensure a healthy body and mind
  • Stay hydrated and make sure you’re are drinking plenty of fluids. During Menopause oestrogen levels drop and oestrogen makes it easier for our tissue to retain water. Not being hydrated enough could lead to lack of energy, brain fog and dizziness. Plus it’s great for your skin
  • Getting enough sleep during Menopause is beneficial for your mind and body. Most women have trouble sleeping during this period but take any opportunity to catch up on sleep as it helps the brain and body work more efficiently
  • Meditation is a great way to relax and boost your mood. Try taking 5 or 10 minutes to yourself before bed or whenever you get chance in the day. Mediation is also linked to helping relieve hot flushes
