POSTPARTUM HAIR LOSS TIPS

Postpartum hair loss cannot be prevented, it's normal during pregnancy recovery....

However, if you want those lushes' locks to remain full and thick, here are some suggestions:

  • A well-balanced and healthy diet
  • Products that volumize hair can make it look fuller
  • Get a trim or new style to further develop how your hair looks
  • Brush gently
  • Use curling irons and hair dryers sparingly; this will ultimately make the hair look meager and harmed
  • Take your vitamins, especially now that you need to look after your baby

What is postpartum hair loss?

During pregnancy the body experiences high amounts of oestrogen and progesterone.

The high levels of these hormones cause the hair to remain in an extended period of growth resulting in thicker hair.

Once your hormone levels drop after postpartum your hair starts to shed up to 400 strands a day.  By 6 months postpartum the hair loss rate should reduce to pre-pregnancy

Postpartum Self-Care Advice

Naturally, your focus after birth will be primarily on your newborn; however, it is beneficial for both you and your newborn to practice self-care and ensure that your body is recovering properly.

  • Follow your doctor's instructions. Keep up with all of your follow-up appointments and try to relax; they want you to recover as quickly as possible
  • Rest. Whenever you can, try to get enough sleep (Easier said than done!)
  • Accept assistance from friends and family. Don't be afraid to ask for help because taking care of a newborn while also taking care of yourself is a huge undertaking.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet, making sure you are acquiring every one of the essential nutrients your body needs
  • Keep hydrated
  • Follow your doctor's advice and stay away from strenuous activities, but taking walks can improve your mood and energy while getting your body moving
